Eight Reported Dead Due to Typhoon Matmo Floods in Vietnam

(MENAFN) Heavy rains and severe flooding caused by Typhoon Matmo have resulted in eight fatalities and injured five people in Vietnam, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority reported Wednesday.

The agency confirmed that over 15,700 homes were submerged and more than 400 suffered damage, while flooding inundated upwards of 14,600 hectares of rice and other agricultural crops.

Additionally, over 97,000 livestock and poultry were either killed or swept away amid the disaster, with floods, landslides, and traffic disruptions impacting 602 locations across northern mountainous and north-central provinces.

On Tuesday, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued an urgent directive calling for increased measures to prevent flash floods and landslides and to protect the safety of residents in the affected regions, according to the report.
